call to stillness

ambient - neo classical

out january 21st 2022

after sunbow, I tried to lean into a more ethereal and unified place. call to stillness is darker in tone but also more settled in a way. I wrote these tracks as I learned to let the calmness of the coastal scenery sink into myself and relax into the sound of my surroundings.

call to stillness is about collaborating with what’s happening to you instead of fighting it

after spending the majority of his career as a musician playing and producing for other artists, he now ventures into the depths of his own creative imagination .

jannek left new york for half a year in 2020, grabbed 2 synths and a guitar and started writing. what came of it is a large body of work, inspired by the calmness and mindfulness he experienced during his time in isolation. the coastal influence is clearly heard in his music as he channels his love for nature and his love for the quiet moments, something that’s hard to express living in manhattan.

the work on these songs was continued upon his return to new york, where he tirelessly crafted sounds and songs at the ‘human’ studios in chelsea, where he collaborated with legends of the music industry such as Tony Visconti (Bowie, T-Rex), Donny McCaslin (Bowie, Maria Schneider) and Kristeen Young (Bowie, Dave Grohl).

nestled in the depth between new age, neo-classical and ambient music, jannek draws from the inspirations that have come to him during his recent years in new york, as he cherishes his more blues and folk related roots and moves to new musical waters.

“When you walk through your garden of life and open yourself enough to attentively notice the surrounding beauty, you may be lucky enough to spot a flower that has a petal and color display of such depth that you can’t help but get lost in it. It’s a mesmerizing experience of explorative and meditative bliss washing over you. If you are lucky enough to find such a blossom, you wouldn’t dare to pick it and bring it with you. You would water it, tend to it and make sure it always gets just about the right amount of light while understanding that it grew into its beautiful self without your help, so you don’t have to do too much either.”

“when we find unity in our minds and allow ourselves to settle into the repetitive motion of our breath we can find a melody within ourselves that sings of kindness and to me that melody felt like water. as I was writing this second record the theme of moving around obstacles without fighting them was very reoccurring”
